Family pictures — they are our favorite type of image. Whether we are in Sterling, VA or photographing in Chantilly, VA, as a photographer there is nothing I really love more than taking Family Photos.
Joriana and I are thrilled to let you know that we received a Bride’s Choice award. This award recognizes the top 5 percent of local wedding professionals from the WeddingWire Network who demonstrate excellence in quality, service and professionalism.
The Bride’s Choice Awards™ are determined exclusively by recent newlyweds (brides and grooms) through extensive surveys and reviews, which means your past clients have spoken on our behalf and selected you to receive this honor.

Although we do quite a big of children photography in our Sterling, VA and Centreville, VA studio, as a Photographer I have to save my favorite type is a Family Photo of everyone all together. Especially with a special NEW family, it warms our heart to take an image of the first day of their new family all together.
Here’s one that made us smile…and cry…it explains WHY we love Nikki and Mike, the latest in our list of kewl clients…
Nikki and Mike
I think I have started this review at least a hundred times and always fail to capture the impact Mindy and Joriana had on my wedding experience. Not just the photography- the experience was and the images are amazing- but the overall start to finish and beyond impact. Our immediate impression of M&J was one of comfort and ease. They are relaxed and approachable, like old friends. We instantly clicked which is so important when selecting a photographer; their purpose is to capture your experience, emotion and event so that you have it for your “ever after”. They are all about you and what is important to you. Having a good personal connection lets them really get to know you so they can capture the images that will generate an emotional reaction 5, 15, 30 years later when you look back at your photos/album/images.
Weddings in general are overwhelming. Mindy and Jori know their profession and the wedding “business” which is important when YOU need a sanity check! On several occasions, Mindy helped me break it down, sort it out and make it manageable when faced with challenges, big and small.
Their work is amazing. I was looking for “traditional with a twist”- I didn’t know that at the time but looking back that is exactly what I wanted! I wanted interesting, fun and unique images from a rather traditional wedding. They did not disappoint!! The “first look” concept is brilliant. The technical skills M&J bring to your images make you say “WOW, I didn’t know I could look like that!!” or, “How did you do that??” Mindy just smiles with a little wink- she’s got you covered.
Weddings are a one-time deal, there are no do-overs or take backs. Doing it right and capturing the experience the first time and forever is of utmost importance. Mindy and Jori just get “it” they instinctively know what is important, they listen, provide stellar guidance and are truly good people, amazingly talented and professional. They were simply the best choice for our wedding… and after shoot… and girl’s session… and boudoir session (they haven’t quite talked me into that yet :o)… and whatever we may need in the future, they will be our choice.
I can’t thank them enough for their talent, guidance, and friendship OH!! and the most amazing wedding images EVER!!! You can’t go wrong with these ladies, they are top notch professionals and good people. Best of Luck!!!
Nicole and Michael Rhodes

ISPWP — it’s an organization we are proud to be a member of! So imagine our surprise and honor to have one of our images featured on the home page — right across from the words “The Best Wedding Photographers in the World”!
The ISPWP has a monthly photo assignment given to the members. Entries are posted on the ISPWP Forum, and all members get to vote on the winner. That means the best photographers all over the world voted on all the entries — there is nothing like having your peers vote your work part of “the Best Photography in the world.”
The May assignment was “Surprise.” Congratulations to Mindy Belcher of Ever After Portraits for winning the May Photo of the Month.
Here’s our notes about the image:
“Carly and Jonathan were married at the Hartwood House, in Hartwood, Virginia. These childhood sweethearts had a lovely wedding filled with the love of family and friends. This image was taken at Carly and Jonathan’s wedding during the speeches. Carly’s father was giving the toast and said something that brought this look to the bride’s face – as you can surmise, she was surprised that he shared this bit of info during his toast.”
Thanks for Carly and Jonathan for not only being such a lovely couple to work with, but for allowing us to document your day with images like these!

This professional photographer family in Northern VA is a good example of what a professional photographer can do.
Washington, DC is one of our favorite locations for engagement, wedding and Day After Sessions with our brides and grooms because each session is always new and exciting. We LOVE to spend time with our kewl clients, so as part of our wedding photography collections, you not only hire two wedding photographers, who specialize in wedding photojournalism or capturing the emotion of the moment, you are hiring wedding photojournalist who LOVE to get their clients in front of their cameras — and what better location than in DC?
So, has anyone ever seen “The Lion King?” If you have, you probably remember a song that went something like this . . . “Hakuna Matata! It means no worries for the rest of your days. It’s our problem freeeee philosophyyy . . . Hakuna Matata” You’re probably wondering right about now, what in the world is this woman talking about?!? I have a point, I promise.
It was towards the end of the shoot that we started getting to know a little more about Tim and Rebecca and how they got to know each other. And the story went a little like this . . .
Rebecca caught Tim’s eye in the school library where they were both studying to become attorneys. By the way, congratulations to BOTH of them for recently passing the bar exam — one of the hardest tests in the WORLD! Yeah, I know, our clients are so awesome. Anyways, I digress. Acquaintances became friends became so much more after Tim got Rebecca’s phone number…and before she even knew it! As Tim put it, he gradually got the digits to her number — you see, Rebecca never gave her number out . . . but she gave it to Tim!
Then there was the snow storm. Usually this would be a bad thing, but for Tim and Rebecca, it was just another chance to get to know each other a little better.
One memorable date involved walking and singing…a longgg walk home to her place in Arlington. Like the sweetheart that he is, Tim wanted to make sure Rebecca was safe…and when she started singing “Hakuna Matata”, Tim realized this was the girl for him. We think it’s the perfect match — now that they have each other, they will have no worries for the rest of their days. (It’s a problem free philosophy)
Tim and Rebecca were just the cutest couple! In the short time that we’ve gotten to know them and learn a little about their relationship, it was always clear that they deeply love and respect each other. We can’t wait to photograph your wedding!
Hakuna Matata and enjoy the slideshow…

Georgetown University
37th and O Streets, NW
Washington DC, 20057
It was a chilly day but the sun shone brightly in this cozy little square at Georgetown University where Kellen proposed to Anne. It’s the cutest story.
Anne kind of knew something was up due to the nervous laughing. Kellen had the ring safely tucked away in his wallet — he had even bought a special case for it! Kellen pulled the ring from his pocket and proposed to Anne who happily accepted!
And here we are today! Kellen and Anne are one of the coolest couples we have. Kellen used to be in an Irish band. Anne loves listening to Disney songs and show tunes. They’re both also excellent dancers.
We are so excited to photograph your wedding!! Thank you for choosing us! We hope you enjoy the slideshow!
